    January 30 2024

Agfa, a leading provider of inkjet printing solutions, introduces the next generation of its Anapurna H3200 wide-format hybrid printer, representing a significant leap forward in speed and print quality.

Boasting an almost 70% increase in printing speed compared to its predecessor (in Production Mode), the newest version of the 3.2 m Anapurna H3200 emerges as a serious step-up for sign shops and digital printers, empowering them to swiftly tackle a wide range of print jobs.

“We are excited to unveil the next generation of the Anapurna H3200”, says Philip Van der Auwera, Product Manager Sign & Display at Agfa. “Since the debut of the first Anapurna over two decades ago, the printer family has undergone multiple enhancements and expansions. Renowned for its exceptional versatility and unwavering reliability, the new version of the Anapurna H3200 now combines these attributes with a boost in productivity and improved quality. This step underscores Agfa’s commitment to innovation and delivering top-notch solutions that align with the evolving needs of our customers.”

Like its predecessor, the Anapurna H3200 features a six-color plus white ink set and UV LED curing. However, both the print shuttle and print engine itself have been redesigned to achieve a significant productivity increase. The fast-firing print heads ensure rapid throughput – up to 66 m²/hour in production mode – and superior print quality on flexible and rigid materials alike. Additionally, the printer’s newly implemented continuous board feeding capacity enables efficient printing on rigid materials, with the capability to print up to four boards printed simultaneously.

The enhanced print shuttle also contributes to improved image quality, particularly noticeably in darker solid tones. The Anapurna excels in delivering high-quality prints across a spectrum of applications, from uncoated rigid media like corrugated boards and plastics to roll media such as film, vinyl, banners, canvas, and coated textiles. Its GREENGUARD Gold-certified inks deliver high color vibrancy and a broad color gamut, while Agfa’s patented Thin Ink Layer technology ensures minimal ink consumption.

The new Anapurna H3200 is equipped with a protective closure. This redesign not only gives the printer a fresh look but also contributes to a safer working environment.

The new Anapurna H3200 will debut at the C!Print exhibition in Lyon, France (February 6-8). It will be featured alongside Agfa’s high-end Tauro H3300, HS, which boasts a varnish printing option for enhancing prints, and will be equipped with the award-winning Flex roll-to-roll system, a compact module that boosts printer uptime by enabling seamless transitioning from rolls to boards or sheets without the need for undocking.

Additionally, Agfa will showcase the advanced capabilities of the new Anapurna hybrid printer at FESPA in Amsterdam (The Netherlands, 19-22 March).

    January 30 2024

Canon has launched a new series of 7-colour imagePROGRAF GP large format printers for both commercial and in-house print service providers.

Designed predominantly for high-end posters but also suitable for other graphic arts applications such as printing photographs, the new series comprises three models: the 60”/1524mm imagePROGRAF GP-6600S and the 44”/1118mm GP-4600S – replacing the imagePROGRAF PRO-6100S and PRO-4100S – and the 24”/610mm GP-2600S. Combined with a new pigment ink set, LUCIA PRO II, the new series delivers A0 size posters on uncoated paper within 48 seconds and provides an expanded gamut of vibrant and accurately reproduced colours, together with greater image durability. The imagePROGRAF GP series will be showcased live at drupa 2024 on the Canon stand in Hall 8A, B41-1 – B41-8.

    Exceptional PANTONE coverage

The new 7-colour LUCIA PRO II ink set used with the new imagePROGRAF GP series includes orange, which reproduces more vivid, eye-catching colours, and grey, which smoothly reproduces skin tones, for example. As a result, the colour gamut reproducible by the new imagePROGRAF GP series accurately hits 96% of the PANTONE FORMULA GUIDE Solid Coated’ sample book, making the series ideal for printing corporate colours.

    Significantly increased durability

The LUCIA PRO II ink set also allows users to produce far more robust output as the new inks provide substantially improved abrasion resistance on photo papers, so that posters and other printed output are less likely to be scratched when handled, transported and mounted in place. In addition, a very light-resistant pigment in the ink set dramatically increases colour fastness, so that artwork can be potentially preserved for up to 200 years.

    Productivity boost

Regardless of the skill or experience of the user, the new imagePROGRAF GP series is easy to use and offers increased productivity, thanks to its ink ejection status monitoring system, simplified settings and easier media handling. Its dual roll capability allows a second roll of a different media type and size to be loaded at the same time so that that the user can automatically switch from printing on matte to gloss paper without interrupting the workflow. By accelerating the automatic media feeding process, the media loading time has also been reduced by approximately 40%.

    Environmental considerations

In line with Canon’s goal of reducing the environmental footprint of its products and operations by using resources responsibly, minimising waste, increasing efficiency and supporting innovation, it has reduced the amount of expanded polystyrene packaging material used for the new imagePROGRAF GP series – for example, 89.5% less polystyrene foam is used for the GP-4600S than for its predecessor. In addition, its reduced power consumption – using 94W or less during operation and 2.2W or less during standby – as well as other satisfied criteria, has helped the series achieve a ‘Gold’ product rating under the U.S. EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Registry, the highest level of registration in the field of imaging equipment products.

Mathew Faulkner, EMEA Director, Marketing and Innovation, Wide Format Printing Group, Canon Europe, comments: “With the launch of the new imagePROGRAF GP series, we’re addressing the needs of the high-end, premium poster market. The GP series retains the superb imagePROGRAF print quality, while the configuration of the new LUCIA PRO II inks offers a much wider colour gamut and delivers outstanding Pantone coverage for more accurate corporate colour reproducibility. With image durability also very important for the high-end poster market, any output printed on the new imagePROGRAF GP devices will be both very scratch- and light-resistant, helping to preserve its longevity and value. And with the improved media handling and increased automation of the series, we’ve also made it more productive and easier to use.”The new imagePROGRAF GP series is available from March 2024 across EMEA either directly from Canon or through one of its accredited resellers.

    High-Precision & Unrivalled Performance

The S Class 2, a proven performer, has been on the market for ten years. It is not only unmatched (still!) by its competition, it is also very much valued by its customers. "For the S Class 3, we kept the good and proven. And while they may look similar under the hood at first sight, a lot has been upgraded. The latest electronics made it possible to achieve faster responsiveness, better data processing, and more precise motor control, resulting in a smoother, faster, and more reliable result.", says Randi Kerkaert, product manager.

    Reliable & Versatile Cutting

    August 29 2023

Mimaki Europe has announced the development of a new direct-to-film (DTF) printer, the TxF300-75. The new system incorporates the stability and functionality of Mimaki’s first DTF printer, the TxF150-75, while delivering new levels of productivity with print speeds that are three times higher.

Mimaki’s intention, when entering the DTF market earlier this year, was to offer customers a stable, efficient DTF platform that incorporates Mimaki’s renowned quality standards. In line with the original machine, the new TxF300-75 meets these objectives, whilst catering to a diverse set of printing demands, including larger companies requiring higher volumes of high-quality output.

“We believe in giving customers choice and anticipating their needs, which is why we are expanding our DTF printer line-up hot on the heels of the inaugural system.” explains Arjen Evertse, General Sales Manager, Mimaki Europe. “The TxF300-75 has been designed to offer even greater productivity. The innovative 80cm width introduced with our first DTF printer remains a feature of this new system, enabling customers to print more efficiently.”

The reliability of the Mimaki DTF printer series is achieved through the built-in ink circulation system that prevents white ink clogging, and a degassed ink pack, lowering the risk of poor ink jetting. The new printer also includes core Mimaki features, including NCU (Nozzle Check Unit) and NRS (Nozzle Recovery System) for stable, uninterrupted print production. The DTF process also enables customers to print on a wider range of fabric such as cotton, mixed fabric, polyester, and dark coloured fabrics.

In line with Mimaki’s sustainability goals, the TxF300-75 utilises Mimaki’s PHT50 pigment inks which are ECO-PASSPORT certified - validating their lower environmental impact and meeting the requirements for OEKO-TEX certification.

Distributed in the UK and Ireland by Hybrid Services, the company’s sales director, Andrew Gregory, welcomes the addition to the line-up. “Since its launch, the TxF150-75 has been an overwhelming success, receiving a very positive response from the market. It’s exciting to be able to announce the higher production machine joining the range, and we look forward to seeing it later in the year.”

Operate to Your Optimum in 2024 with Currie Group

A new year is always a great time to review your business plans, but no matter what time of year it is, having a comprehensive and effective preventative maintenance schedule for your mission-critical equipment is vital to ensure you are always operating to your optimum.

With technology evolving rapidly, and diversification the key for today’s savvy print service provider, it’s perhaps no wonder that new investments are often the focus of forward planning. Looking after the systems and equipment you already have in your business, however, is equally – if not more – important to your productivity, efficiency and profitability.

Marcus Robinson, Director – Operations for Currie Group, oversees what is arguably the most extensive service and technical support operation in the industry, looking after an extensive portfolio of products that cover almost every application from general commercial print, to labels and packaging, sign & display, print finishing, 3D printing and more.

A veteran of the industry, he has seen firsthand just how important preventative maintenance can be in an industry where productivity means profitability.

“We work in a very technologically advanced space, but no matter how clever or sophisticated your technology may be, if your mission-critical equipment grinds to a halt, your bottom line will quickly take a big hit,” he says.

It’s a situation the group’s experienced team of technicians see all too often – an SOS from a client in the middle of a vitally important print run, let down by technology at the critical moment. Often, Marcus says, it’s because the pressure of day-to-day operations has led to important preventative maintenance being overlooked.

“We all get busy, and when the jobs are queued up, shutting down a machine for maintenance is the last thing you want to do,” he acknowledges. “But taking a proactive, rather than reactive, approach can drastically reduce your risk of unplanned downtime and also significantly improve the performance of your equipment – which all leads to higher efficiency, better productivity and, ultimately, a more profitable operation.”

A planned approach provides businesses with an all-important health check on each piece of kit to identify any current issues and flag potential problems before they arise. It then allows business owners to lock in a maintenance program that suits their particular workload and operational objectives.

The first step, Marcus says, is to sit down with Currie Group to discuss your requirements.

“Service agreements used to be a ‘one size fits all’ kind of thing, but today they are incredibly flexible to cater for all types of businesses, from those who operate 24/7 and put through millions of impressions a month, to those who run 9-5 weekdays at much lower volumes. It’s about working out the best plan for each individual situation.”

For many businesses, the solution will be the Currie Care Service Agreement – a plan which looks much like a traditional maintenance or service agreement, albeit one which is more tailored to individual business needs.

“This is where a business can sign up for Currie Care and know that their regular equipment health checks, preventative maintenance, parts and labour, and the training they need, are completely covered by their agreement,” Marcus explains.

For others, a more nuanced approach is preferred. This usually starts with Currie Group experts conducting Health Checks across the company’s key equipment to establish a baseline and identify any areas which deviate from manufacturer’s standard.

A written technical report, detailing the identified issues and recommended preventative maintenance, provides a roadmap for devising a customised maintenance schedule planned around the company’s individual workload, shifts and priorities…and ensures nothing is missed.

The resulting program typically covers a full year, and is delivered by Currie Group’s team of factory-trained technicians – many of whom have been with the company for years. They are regularly sent for the latest and most advanced training with Currie Group’s OEM partners to ensure they are right up to date with new platforms as well as existing technologies, and bring their knowledge and skills back to their colleagues via the company’s internal ‘train the trainer’ style program.

Their expertise and experience are supported by the latest resources including advanced analytics, remote diagnostics delivered in partnership with Currie Group’s principals, and innovations like virtual reality glasses which allow real-time input from the equipment manufacturers during service and maintenance procedures. The team is also investigating innovative new technologies like AI-driven predictive modelling, which they expect to further enhance service programs in years to come.

Maintaining this high level of service requires ongoing commitment and investment, Marcus explains, but it something Currie Group has always prioritised.

“When you invest in new equipment, it’s important to know that investment is backed by the support you need to maximise its potential. Our ongoing commitment to service and support means our customers can have that confidence. In many cases, Currie Group technicians become trusted advisors, with relationships stretching back years. It’s a real partnership.

“Now, we just want to make sure that every business takes advantage of the support available by putting in place the preventative measures they need to maximise their profitability in 2024 and beyond.”

    August 01 2023

Canon has announced that 3M has recognised the exceptional quality of the Colorado M-series and approved its UVgel 460 white ink as part of the 3M MCS Warranty program, following its successful introduction earlier this year.

The 3M MCS Warranty program provides assurance that applications printed on the Colorado M-series in combination with UVgel 460 inks and 3M’s approved media will achieve the highest quality standards. The applications it covers include vehicle graphics, signs and displays, floor graphics, as well as transparent film and multilayer applications, such as window graphics and many more.

In combination with a variety of 3M media, the Colorado M-series and its UVgel 460 inks, including the new white ink, had to pass a series of rigorous tests carried out under 3M’s stringent assessment conditions to qualify for the approval. Recognised as a trusted industry standard and representing the most comprehensive, all-inclusive warranty for finished graphics, the 3M MCS Warranty provides non-prorated protection for the graphic’s intended lifespan, including protection against fading, cracking, peeling, blistering, discoloration and many other aspects of graphic performance. In doing so, the warranty gives both print service providers and their customers the confidence that their images will perform as expected for the intended lifetime of the printed graphic.

The Canon Colorado M-series was launched earlier this year and is designed as a single, fully modular platform that can be configured to graphics providers’ needs and grow with their business, with easy in-field upgrades. The scalable series includes two base models (M3 and M5) that offer a choice of output speeds and the option to upgrade from one model to the other. Both printers can also be upgraded to include white ink (M3W and M5W).

The Colorado series is Canon's most productive 64-inch printer family and uses the unique UVgel ink technology. It incorporates all the best aspects of alternative ink technologies, such as the colour gamut and light fastness of eco-solvent, the fit for indoor and outdoor use, due to there being no odour and quick drying time associated with latex and the productivity and low-temperature printing process of UV.

The inclusion of the white UVgel ink for the 3M MCS Warranty program maximises the scope for customers to benefit from UVgel’s renowned performance advantages across a full spectrum of premium graphics, including window graphics, labels, interior décor and many multi-layer applications.

UVgel inks produce odourless, ultra-robust output, fully certified for indoor use as well as being very durable for outdoor use. Customers benefit from zero VOC emissions, zero hazardous air pollutants and a low average ink usage of 5.9ml /m2. And with more than 3,000 UVgel engines installed worldwide, UVgel has already proven itself to be a sustainable, cost-efficient and highly productive alternative for latex and eco-solvent technology.

Woonsik Shim, Vice President, Graphics and Personal Auto Business, 3M Commercial Branding and Transportation Division, says: “At 3M we take pride in the ability to provide graphics manufacturers the widest selection of premier printing solutions. Extending the warranty through our partnership with Canon and their growing UVgel portfolio reinforces our commitment to quality and to our customers' success, which in turn inspires confidence in the printed graphics.”

Mathew Faulkner, EMEA Director, Marketing and Innovation, Wide Format Printing Group at Canon Europe, comments: “We’re committed to working with large format graphics producers to evolve their production and enable them to exploit new growth opportunities. With the new Colorado M-series, which has Canon’s UVgel technology at its core, we’re helping our customers to do just that by providing a fully modular printer platform capable of effortlessly handling high-value, white ink applications. Through collaborative efforts with key partners such as 3M and by acquiring the highly regarded 3M MCS Warranty for the M-series including white ink, we’re better equipped than ever to empower print service providers to meet the highest quality standards, achieve boundless creativity, improved efficiency and grow their profitability.”

The Colorado 1630, Colorado 1650 and also the new Colorado M-series with the UVgel 460 ink set, which includes white ink, are now all approved for the 3M MCS Warranty program.

Canon is seeing a rapid growth in the take-up of its Colorado platform and patented UVgel technology and, in 2020, invested in a new, state-of-the-art ink factory at its HQ in Venlo, Netherlands, which is now fully operational and increasing its production capacity continuously to keep up with demand.

  • + Megnajet launches new fluid management system - JetSource HFR

Megnajet has launched the JetSource HFR Core, a new fluid management system designed to meet the challenges of high-volume, inkjet printing and additive manufacturing applications....

    July 25 2023

Megnajet has launched the JetSource HFR Core, a new fluid management system designed to meet the challenges of high-volume, inkjet printing and additive manufacturing applications.

Developed in response to the increasing industry demand for jetting large volumes of fluid, Megnajet’s latest fluid management system recirculates fluid at up to four litres per minute across up to five independent ports for printheads.

In addition, the JetSource incorporates an impressive system architecture which minimises any restrictions and enables peak flow rates to be achieved, thereby maintaining print system productivity.

This innovation in inkjet fluid management systems helps OEMs and integrators to overcome the common challenges in jetting large volumes of fluids. The system provides accurate, high-quality results across a range of applications including labelling and packaging embellishments, special varnish effects, braille and high-build 3D printing.

Optimised tank volumes ensure continuous availability of conditioned fluids with the advanced dual heating and sensing system providing precise temperature regulation for jetting.

Pressure stabilisation is also guaranteed with the JetSource HFR Core, providing a fast response to changes in print duty and maintaining control when ejecting large volumes of fluid. Thanks to a compressed air venturi system, it can react quickly and accurately to deliver high quality print regardless of the duty cycle.

Easily integrated to customers’ inkjet systems, its compact nature and ease of use make the JetSource HFR Core the ideal fluid management solution in high volume applications. Units can also be customised to suit specific fluid types, including the use of alternate body materials such as FDA approved food grade acetal or a choice of gasket materials and customisations to user software.

The launch of the JetSource HFR Core opens up the opportunity for OEMs to take advantage of the benefits of high productivity printheads and printbar-based architecture, without having to invest in developing their own solution.

Mike Seal, General Manager at Megnajet said, “We’re delighted to launch the JetSource HFR Core as it meets the growing demand to precisely and accurately control large volumes of fluid across high productivity printheads.

“JetSource will help our customers to access the many opportunities of high-volume inkjet applications, delivering print quality that is essential to their success, while saving them time, effort and resources in having to develop their own standalone solution.”
